The Beauty Shiraz
Wine
Hentley Farm The Beauty Shiraz is grown on a single vineyard block at the lowest point of the estate vineyard, directly on the banks of Greenock Creek at Seppeltsfield.
The low location means cool air settles around the vines, and the surrounding gum trees keep it in place. Combined with its western aspect, which provides morning shade, the site is significantly cooler than the higher Shiraz blocks.
The Shiraz fruit, along with a small portion of Viognier skins, is destemmed but not crushed. It is fermented with a mix of inoculated and natural yeast strains.
After an initial temperature spike, one third of the wine transfers to oak for fermentation off skins. The balance is chilled and returned over the skins to ferment with minimal pump overs.
The wine is basket pressed to new and seasoned French oak for natural malolactic fermentation. Total oak maturation is 16-18 months. There is no fining or filtration.
Deep red purple, Hentley Farm The Beauty Shiraz displays softness and subtlety with blue and red fruit flavours, bright acidity and soft tannins.
A fitting counterpoint to The Beast Shiraz. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
