Walsh Block Syrah
Wine
Eastern Peake Walsh Block Syrah is sourced from the Walsh family's vineyard, just over the road from Eastern Peake in Coghills Creek, Ballarat. The vines were planted in 2003.
Most of the fruit is destemmed, though a small parcel is retained as whole bunches. Wild yeast fermentation occurs in wax-lined concrete open fermenters followed by extended post-ferment maceration on skins.
The wine is then pressed directly to barrel for natural malolactic fermentation and maturation. After 12 months it is racked to tank, resting for a further six months before it is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Ruby red, Eastern Peake Walsh Block Syrah is spicy and textured with fresh fruit flavours, fine grained tannins and a long savoury finish. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
