Reserve Riesling
Wine
Crawford River Reserve Riesling is selected from a handful of special rows on the oldest block on the estate, planted in 1975. All the fruit is handpicked.
The Crawford River vineyard lies at the alluvial edge of a volcanic lava flow. Gravelly, friable, basalt loam overlays permeable clay, which sits above a limestone base created by an ancient, risen seabed.
The fruit is cool fermented to dryness in stainless steel tanks. Depending on the vintage, the wine may age on lees in tank for an extended period. At bottling the wine is sterile filtered, but not fined.
It is cellared immediately after bottling and released as an aged wine, usually a decade after the vintage. It is produced in limited quantities, only in select years.
Bright pale yellow, Crawford River Reserve Riesling is elegant and restrained, with poised acidity, seamless structure and an extremely long finish.
A standout Australian Riesling. Cellaring potential is seven years.
