Wine
Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz is the winery's lead wine. It takes its name from the original zoning for the site which was to be Pokolbin's cemetery. Only the best parcels are selected.
First planted with Shiraz and Cabernet, today the 15 hectare Graveyard Vineyard is solely Shiraz. Yields from the heavy clay soils are low, but the fruit flavour is intense. The first single vineyard release was in 1983.
The fruit is cold soaked then open fermented with hand plunging twice daily. Once pressed off skins, the wine is run to French oak for malolactic fermentation and up to 14 months of maturation.
Bright red, Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz is perfect in texture and structure. It has red berry and spice flavours, ripe tannins and juicy acidity.
A classic Hunter Valley Shiraz. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
