Balnarring Pinot Noir

Allies Wines Balnarring Pinot Noir finds the middle ground between the warmer climate Tuerong Pinot Noir and the cooler climate Merricks Pinot Noir. It is grown at 95 metres elevation on a northerly aspect.

The vines are sited in Bittern Complex soil: a thin layer of grey sandy topsoil over a yellowish clay. Moderately fertile but with good water holding capacity, they produce low crops with concentrated character.

The grapes are rigorously sorted in both the vineyard and winery. After a period of cold soaking, they are warm fermented with natural yeasts. The juice remains on skins until the tannins are supple.

Nothing is added unless absolutely necessary. There are no stems, no added yeasts, and malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. At bottling there is no fining or filtration.

Deep crimson, Allies Wines Balnarring Pinot Noir has ripe fruit flavours, restrained acidity and soft, persistent tannins. Cellaring potential is five years.
