Fatal Shore Pinot Noir
Wine
Giant Steps Fatal Shore Pinot Noir is sourced from the Nocton Vineyard in Tasmania's Coal River Valley. The vines were planted in 1999 on a north-east facing aspect.
The fruit is handpicked straight into a refrigerated container parked in the vineyard. The container is then immediately driven to Devonport and shipped across Bass Strait to arrive at the Yarra Valley winery the following morning.
The wine is a blend of MV6 and D5V12 clone Pinot Noir. The MV6 portion is whole bunch fermented in oak while the D5V12 fruit is destemmed, cold soaked and fermented in a mix of open vats and stainless steel.
The wine matures in 225 litre French oak barriques, about one quarter new. After eight months of maturation it is racked, blended and gravity bottled without fining or filtration.
Deep red, Giant Steps Fatal Shore Pinot Noir is perfumed and textural, medium to full bodied with brooding fruit flavours. Cellaring potential is seven years.
