The Wheelwright
Wine
Henschke The Wheelwright pays tribute to Henschke founding father Johann Christian, an early Barossa pioneer, stonemason and wheelwright who established the winery in 1868.
The wine is made with old vine Shiraz from Henschke's Eden Valley vineyard. Its inaugural release was in 2018 (the 2015 vintage) to celebrate 150 years of Henschke family winemaking.
After fermentation the wine matures for 18 months in predominantly seasoned French oak barrels. A small percentage of the oak is new, and a smaller portion is American.
Deep purple, Henschke The Wheelwright has intense red berry flavours, fine tannins and a long, textured finish. Cellaring potential is 30 years.
