Millstream Pinot Noir
Wine
William Downie Millstream Pinot Noir is grown on the eastern edge of the Neerim South township in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range. The vines were planted in 1985.
Perched at 300 metres elevation on a gentle north-easterly aspect, the Millstream Vineyard has a clear view of Mount Baw Baw. The site has always been dry grown.
The fruit is hand sorted, fully destemmed and the whole berries are placed into a mix of wooden and stainless steel open vats. Fermentation takes place without any additions, temperature control, punch downs or pump overs.
After 30 days the wine is pressed for maturation in old Australian made French oak barrels. At bottling there is only a small addition of sulphur, and no fining or filtration.
Deep red, William Downie Millstream Pinot Noir tastes of black fruits, raspberry and damp earth with chewy tannins and defined acidity. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
