Bull Swamp Pinot Noir
Wine
William Downie Bull Swamp Pinot Noir is a single site expression of Gippsland Pinot Noir. It draws from unirrigated plantings in the Bull Swamp Vineyard, planted in 1981.
The vineyard is situated at 150 metres elevation in red volcanic soils. The wine blends three parcels of Pinot Noir: a north facing block of the Abel clone, a north facing block of the MV6 clone, and a more sheltered south facing block of the MV6 clone.
William Downie keeps the winemaking very simple. The grapes are fermented naturally, with no punch downs, pump overs or temperature control.
Deep red, William Downie Bull Swamp Pinot Noir is a dense, savoury wine with herbaceous, earthy notes and mineral tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
