Margaret River Shiraz
Wine
Flametree Margaret River Shiraz is mainly a blend of fruit from two vineyards at Wallcliffe in Margaret River, both planted on gravel laterite soils.
The 2016 vintage marked a stylistic change for the wine, emphasizing elegance rather than power. Soft extraction techniques, cool temperatures and open ferments are used.
A portion of sundried grape stems, whole bunch fruit and whole berries are included in the ferments to add perfume, structure and complexity. The whole bunch component introduces spicy red fruit notes to the wine.
Once pressed the wine is inoculated for malolactic fermentation and sent to seasoned French oak puncheons. After nine months of maturation it is blended and bottled.
Deep dark red, Flametree Margaret River Shiraz is Pinot-like in style, highly perfumed with dark fruit flavours and a fine tannin structure. Cellaring potential is seven years.
