Wine
Mewstone Syrah is sourced from a tiny planting of Syrah on the lower slopes of the winery's vineyard at Flowerpot in southern Tasmania.
The vines are Old Tahbilk clone Syrah, hand pruned to keep yields low and ensure premium quality. All the grapes are handpicked.
The fruit is naturally fermented in milk vats with a small whole bunch inclusion. After several weeks on skins, the wine is pressed directly to new and seasoned oak for maturation.
In late summer, after ageing for nine months, the wine is bottled. Only small quantities are produced.
Dense red, Mewstone Syrah is a medium bodied cool climate Shiraz with dark berry flavours, silky tannins and a long, spicy finish. Cellaring potential is seven years.
