Estate Vineyard YRB Pinot Noir Shiraz
Wine
Medhurst Estate Vineyard YRB Pinot Noir Shiraz pays tribute to the wines made in the 1920s by legendary Hunter Valley winemaker Maurice O'Shea. It is a Yarra Valley take on a Hunter Valley style.
Pinot Noir and Shiraz fruit is handpicked. They are destemmed but not crushed, instead left as whole berries so fermentation can occur within the grapes themselves.
Both varieties are combined in a vat for co-fermentation with indigenous yeasts. One gentle pump over is done to aerate the yeast, but the ferment receives no further pump overs. The juice is drained and tipped over the top of the skins daily.
The resulting medium bodied wine is pressed to seasoned puncheons for five months of maturation prior to bottling.
Crimson purple, Medhurst Vineyard YRB Pinot Noir Shiraz has structured red fruit notes from the Pinot Noir and juicy blue fruits from the Shiraz. Cellaring potential is five years.
