Wine

Garagiste Terre de Feu Pinot Noir is grown on a single block of Merricks Grove Vineyard in iron rich ferrosol soils that are fiery red in colour. Its French name terre de feu literally means 'fiery earth'.

Founder Barnaby Flanders noticed that this small ironstone block always produced smaller, though more intense grapes. Their juice was of greater depth and concentration than the rest of the vineyard.

At the winery this discovery became the rationale for the fruit's whole bunch ferment. Terre de Feu remains Garagiste's only 100 per cent whole bunch Pinot Noir. The wine also sees more new oak.

The fruit ferments with native yeasts. During extended maceration on skins the juice is treaded by foot. It is then pressed to French oak to age for one year. Made in small quantities, there is no fining or filtration.

Deep crimson, Garagiste Terre de Feu Pinot Noir is full bodied and intense with silky texture, fine tannins and a very long finish. Cellaring potential is seven years.
