Black Label Barossa Valley Mataro
Wine
Woods Crampton Black Label Barossa Valley Mataro is sourced from the dry grown Marschall Vineyard at Vine Vale, planted in the 1930s. The vines are situated on loose, sandy soils well suited to Mataro.
The fruit is handpicked, sorted and cold soaked. It is primarily destemmed and split between small fermenters that have whole bunches laid across the bottom.
The ferments are hand plunged twice daily. At dryness the wine is pressed using a very old, very gentle pneumatic press, then racked to large format seasoned oak. Here it matures for 15 months without racking or stirring.
A splash of Shiraz or Grenache is typically included in the final blend, which is bottled unfined with minimal sulphur addition.
Dark vermillion, Woods Crampton Black Label Barossa Valley Mataro has intense dark fruit flavours wrapped in savoury spice and fine tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
