Marsican Shiraz
Wine
Mitolo Marsican Shiraz is named after the rare Marsican bear native to Abruzzo in Italy. The wine is a tribute to winery founder Frank Mitolo's father Bruno, whose homeland was Abruzzo.
Marsican Shiraz is a careful selection of the finest parcels of Shiraz from the winery's best vineyards. It is only made in outstanding years, and only in limited quantities.
It blends parcels from the three distinct McLaren Vale sites which supply fruit for their Angela, G.A.M. and Savitar Shiraz wines. Each is situated only kilometres from the Gulf St Vincent, receiving its cool influence.
Each parcel of fruit is fermented on skins for 10 days. The ferments are kept cool, helping to preserve bright fruit flavours without extract bitter tannins from the skins and seeds.
The wine is then gently pressed and run to 100 per cent new French oak barrels. After 18 months of maturation each barrel is considered for the final Marsican blend.
Deep crimson, Mitolo Marsican Shiraz opens with ripe black fruit flavours, unfolding into fine tannins, balanced acidity and hints of spice. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
