Black Blood I Single Vineyard Shiraz
Wine
Hugh Hamilton Wines Black Blood I Single Vineyard Shiraz is grown on the Cellar Vineyard, which forms a sweep of green immediately south of the winery's cellar door. The soil is the distinctive black cracking clay.
This wine is first in the Black Blood trio, a series designed to showcase the winery's three McLaren Vale vineyards. The winemaking is kept consistent so the wine speaks purely of place.
The grapes are destemmed but not crushed. The whole berries are fermented in open vessels with a selected yeast strain. After pressing, the wine spends 18 months ageing in seasoned French oak barrels.
Dense cherry red, Hugh Hamilton Wines Black Blood I Single Vineyard Shiraz has intense dark fruit flavours, a solid line of firm tannins and great persistence.
It is the most textured of the Black Blood wines. Cellaring potential is eight years.
