Ernest Allan Shiraz
Wine
Gemtree Wines Ernest Allan Shiraz is named after Ernest Allan Rivers, grandfather of Gemtree's biodynamic viticulturist Melissa Brown. He was a gifted agriculturalist who understood the relationship between the earth and his plants.
This wine captures his philosophy, producing an honest, earnest expression of McLaren Vale. It draws from biodynamically farmed Shiraz sites, harvested at full flavour maturity.
Each vineyard parcel is handled separately in the winery. The grapes are naturally fermented on skins, with only hand plunging for soft tannin extraction. The batches are then pressed and drained to French oak barrels, 50% new.
After 18-20 months ageing on lees for texture, the wine is racked, assembled and prepared for bottling.
Inky red purple, Gemtree Wines Ernest Allan Shiraz is medium bodied and focused with sweet dark fruits, lively acidity and a silky finish. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
