Alpha Crucis Winemakers' Series Peter Schell Shiraz
Wine
Chalk Hill Alpha Crucis Winemakers' Series Peter Schell Shiraz is the work of winemaker Peter Schell of Spinifex in the Barossa Valley.
The Winemakers' Series sees six small batch winemakers entrusted with six rows of Shiraz from Chalk Hill's Heritage Vineyard in McLaren Vale. The brief is to produce a wine that reflects their individual winemaking philosophy.
The fruit is crushed and cold soaked for several days on skins. The juice is then warmed naturally for fermentation, which takes place in open fermenters with natural yeast for 10 days.
For maturation the wine is pressed off into French oak barrels, around 20% new with the remainder second and third use.
Inky garnet, Chalk Hill Alpha Crucis Winemakers' Series Peter Schell Shiraz is full bodied and earthy, with dark fruit flavours and firm tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
