Shiraz
Wine
Balgownie Estate Bendigo Shiraz has been produced by Balgownie since their first vintage in 1972.
The original vineyard at Maiden Gully in Bendigo, with its alluvial soils and continental climate, provides the backbone for this wine. The fruit is handpicked in several passes of the vineyard.
The grapes are destemmed, crushed and pumped straight to small open vats. Slow fermentation on skins occurs for up to 20 days, with pump overs and plunging kept to a minimum to maintain fruit quality.
Maturation takes place over 18 months in one third new French oak barrels. The wine is bottled without fining.
Deep crimson, Balgownie Estate Bendigo Shiraz combines richness with structure. It has dark fruit flavours, spicy oak and firm tannins. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
