Adelaide Hills Syrah
Wine
S.C. Pannell Adelaide Hills Syrah is made with Shiraz grapes from a vineyard in Echunga in the Adelaide Hills, situated 410 metres above sea level in well drained granitic soils.
The wine is named Syrah, instead of the traditional Shiraz, to highlight the wine's cool climate style. It pays homage to the wines of the northern Rhône Valley in France, known for this style.
The fruit is handpicked and fermented in small open top fermenters. Around one third of the grapes are included as whole bunches. In some years, a small percentage of Viognier is added.
Following extended maceration on skins, the wine matures in predominantly seasoned large French oak vats for 10 months.
Dark red purple, S.C. Pannell Adelaide Hills Syrah is perfumed and dense, yet medium bodied, with black fruit flavours and earthy tannins. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
