Reserve Durif
Wine
Stanton & Killeen Reserve Durif draws from Jack's Block, the winery's oldest vineyard. It was planted in 1921 by John Charles 'Jack' Stanton.
The vines are hand thinned to increase the flavour and complexity of the berries. The grapes are picked in the cool of night.
Open fermentation occurs with frequent hand plunging and pump overs. The focus is on extracting optimum flavour, colour and tannin.
The wine is then matured in oak to balance the Durif variety's ripe flavours. Strong, spicy American oak adds structure and complexity while quality French oak rounds out the taste.
Deep plum red, Stanton & Killeen Reserve Durif has rich dark fruit flavours, persistent tannins and a structured backbone of spicy, smoky oak. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
