Leogate Estate Wines began in 2008 when Bill and Vicki Widin purchased the Brokenback Vineyard in Pokolbin, planted in the late 1970s and owned by one of the founding fathers of modern Australian wine Len Evans.
Leogate Estate sits at the foot of the Brokenback Range in the Hunter Valley. The largest plantings are Hunter classics Shiraz, Chardonnay and Semillon, the white varieties on gravelly flats and the Shiraz on the slopes of an adjacent rise. They also have small plantings of Verdelho, Tempranillo, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. Using sustainable viticulture and avoiding artificial inputs, they protect the vines against the regional challenges: frost, vintage rainfall and humidity.
Leogate Estate Wines Reserve The Basin Shiraz, Western Slopes Shiraz and Creek Bed Semillon are highlights. Their winemaking aims to preserve the natural flavours the vineyards have to offer.
