At the Winery

After 20 years learning the art of grape growing at Tyrrell's, Andrew Margan, with his wife Lisa, launched the Margan brand in 1996. Their rammed earth cellar door is located in the picturesque village of Broke in the Hunter Valley.
Margan has two vineyards, Ceres Hill at Broke and another on the red volcanic soils of the Fordwich Sill planted in the 1960s. Traditional Hunter varieties Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz predominate with smaller plantings of Mourvèdre, Tempranillo and Graciano. Varieties are grown on the best suited blocks to mesoclimate and wine style. Single vineyard and sustainably farmed, Margan's long term goal is to achieve ecological balance between vineyard and winery.
Margan's 'Estate grown, estate made' ethos drives production, making wines that convey their sense of place. Their Aged Release wines, including a Shiraz and Semillon, are highlights.
