Jimmy's Hill Barrel Aged Pinot Gris
Wine
Bangor Jimmy’s Hill Barrel Aged Pinot Gris (previously Reserve Pinot Gris) is named after Bangor's highest point, which rises to a commanding 300 metres. The vineyard is one of the most southerly in Tasmania.
Jimmy's Hill is in turn named after the hardy signalman who lived at the summit in the 1840s. He operated the semaphore station – the text messaging system of the day – that enabled messages to be rapidly relayed around the colony.
The fruit is handpicked from the Bangor vineyard, sited in well drained clay loams over ancient rock. Its gentle northerly aspect and cool climate make it perfect for Pinot Gris.
The wine is made in limited quantities with minimal intervention. It ferments naturally and is gently aged in seasoned, large format French oak barrels. Maturation occurs on lees for 10 months prior to bottling.
Bright yellow, Bangor Jimmy’s Hill Barrel Aged Pinot Gris is medium bodied with full fruit flavours balanced by the subtlest hint of oak. Cellaring potential is three years.
