Alte Reben Shiraz
Wine
Kaesler Alte Reben Shiraz demonstrates the power of old vine Shiraz – alte Reben means 'old vines' in German. It is sourced from the winery's Marananga vineyard, planted in 1899.
The vineyard occupies 3.5 hectares of the Barossa Valley floor, where the soils are not particularly fertile but rich in minerals and trace elements. All the fruit is handpicked.
After crushing, the must is kept cold for several days. The winemaking depends on what the ferments need each day; some days, the juice is pumped over gently while on others it sees plenty of splashing to oxygenate the wine.
The wine is carefully pressed, a close eye kept on the flavours and tannin. It typically matures in new and seasoned French oak for 16-20 months. It is not fined or filtered.
Deep garnet, Kaesler Alte Reben Shiraz is round and generously flavoured, with bracing acidity and subtle but firm tannins. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
