Hazel's Vineyard Chardonnay
Wine
McHenry Hohnen Hazel's Vineyard Chardonnay draws from the winery's southernmost vineyard on a tributary of the Chapman Brook in southern Margaret River.
The biodynamic Hazel's Vineyard is situated further inland than the winery Burnside and Calgardup Brook Vineyards. It lies on a north facing aspect, ensuring the vines receive plenty of sunshine.
The grapes are handpicked and whole bunch pressed. The juice is transferred to new and seasoned French oak barrels with full solids for wild fermentation. Partial malolactic fermentation and ageing on lees follows.
After several months with bâtonnage (lees stirring) every two weeks, the wine is racked with full lees to tank to mature further. There is no filtration at bottling.
Straw green, McHenry Hohnen Hazel's Vineyard Chardonnay has creamy textural layers, a succulent mineral acidity and long length. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
