Calgardup Brook Vineyard Chardonnay
Wine
McHenry Hohnen Calgardup Brook Vineyard Chardonnay is grown just inland from Australia's pristine western coastline at Karridale in southern Margaret River.
Influenced by the cooling sea breezes, the Calgardup Brook Vineyard has the coolest climate of McHenry Hohnen's Chardonnay plantings.
The grapes are handpicked and whole bunch pressed. The juice is transferred to new and seasoned French oak barrels with full solids for wild fermentation. Partial malolactic fermentation and ageing on lees follows.
After several months with bâtonnage (lees stirring) every two weeks, the wine is racked with full lees to tank to mature further. There is no filtration at bottling.
Bright straw, McHenry Hohnen Calgardup Brook Vineyard Chardonnay is a mineral Chardonnay with saline acidity and a chalky grip. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
