Heysen Shiraz
Wine
Rolf Binder Heysen Shiraz is named after the famous Heysen Walking Trail, which runs along the western border of the winery's Chi-Ro Vineyard. Planted in 1972, the low yielding vines produce intensely concentrated Shiraz.
The Shiraz grapes are fermented in a single batch with a small parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon. During the ferment, some of the juice transfers to new oak barrels for 24 hours, then pumped back to tank.
After seven days on skins, the wine is pressed and its free run and pressings portions are blended. It matures for 22 months in 500 litre French oak puncheons. These larger format barrels ensure more restrained oak characters.
Deep crimson violet, Rolf Binder Heysen Shiraz is full bodied with ripe berry and spice flavours, well rounded tannins and a long finish. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
