Wine
Stanton & Killeen Rare Rutherglen Topaque is made from exceptional parcels of Muscadelle grapes, ripened naturally on the vine to achieve a high sugar content.
After a brief fermentation, the wine is fortified and set aside to age for many years.
If a parcel is particularly special, it may eventually 'graduate' to age in the winery's Rare solera system. The oldest material in this collection was laid down by Jack Stanton in the 1970s.
At each release, small portions of the oldest barrels are drawn off and bottled, and the barrels are refilled with the wine from the next oldest collection. As a result of blending, the wine has an average age of 25 years.
Rare by name and by nature, this wine is at the very highest tier of the Rutherglen classification system. It is the pinnacle of the style.
The colour of treacle, Stanton & Killeen Rare Rutherglen Topaque has intense layers of dried fruit and espresso that reveal themselves slowly, with a lingering finish.
Already fully matured, this wine is best consumed within two years.
