Rod & Spur Cabernet Shiraz
Wine
Rockford Rod & Spur Cabernet Shiraz is named to acknowledge the growers who spend cold Barossa Valley winters hand pruning vines in the traditional rod and spur method.
The wine blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz in the great Australian red wine style of the 1950s and 1960s. All the grapes are handpicked.
The fruit is destemmed and crushed through a crusher from the 1880s, then open fermented. After gentle basket pressing, the wine ages in a combination of small and large format oak casks.
Bright crimson, Rockford Rod & Spur Cabernet Shiraz has dark fruit and spicy notes. The Shiraz's soft tannins balance firmness from the Cabernet. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
