Wine
Port Phillip Estate Balnarring Pinot Noir is an exploration of the winery's second vineyard at Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula, originally established in 1997.
The fruit includes a parcel that has been grown in high density plantings, common throughout Old World Pinot Noir regions. All the fruit is handpicked.
Fermentation occurs in a combination of large wooden foudres and stainless steel tanks. The ferment, with a small portion of whole bunches, commences spontaneously with ambient yeasts.
Once pressed, the wine is racked to new and seasoned French oak barrels for natural malolactic fermentation and 12 months of maturation. It is bottled without fining.
A deep red, Port Phillip Estate Balnarring Pinot Noir has dark fruit flavours, with fine, dusty tannins and a long, intense finish. Cellaring potential is seven years.
