Wine
Main Ridge Estate The Acre Pinot Noir is a blend of several Pinot Noir clones, all estate grown on a small plot at Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula.
The Acre Vineyard is set in deeper soils than its sibling Half Acre Vineyard, producing larger fruit and softer tannins. Both wines are made identically to highlight the influence of site on the final taste.
The fruit is destemmed but not crushed, with the berries kept whole for 3-4 days of soaking. Wild fermentation takes place in a single hand plunged open vat.
After 21 days skin contact, the wine is basket pressed to one third new French oak for malolactic fermentation and maturation. At 12 months it is racked off lees and returned to barrel for a further six months.
Vibrant red, Main Ridge Estate The Acre Pinot Noir has dark cherry flavours, fine tannins, elegant intensity and length.
Though suitable for earlier drinking, cellaring potential is seven years.
