Ned & Henry's Shiraz
Wine
Hewitson Ned & Henry's Shiraz was originally made in response to a challenge taken up by Dean Hewitson – to make a full bodied Barossa red that can be drunk young. It is named after his two sons.
The fruit is sourced from the Steingarten Road Vineyard, grown in north-south rows on north facing slopes. The soils are rich terra rossa (red loam over limestone).
Some of the fruit is crushed while the rest is left as whole berries or whole bunches, depending on the vintage. It is cold soaked prior to fermentation. The ferments remain on skins for 2-3 weeks, receiving pumping over or punching down.
After pressing, the wine is sent to French oak barrels for up to 16 months of maturation.
Deep crimson purple, Hewitson Ned & Henry's Shiraz is full bodied with explosive red berry flavours, velvety tannins and fresh acidity. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
