Wine
Charles Melton Nine Popes is the lead wine. Its name is a playful take on France's Châteauneuf du Pape, whose classic Grenache blends are the inspiration for the wine.
Nine Popes is a blend of Barossa Valley Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro. It has the most complex fermentation of all Charles Melton wines, with hand plunging and whole bunch fermentation with wild and cultured yeasts.
A large portion of the blend finishes in 100 per cent new French oak puncheons. It is then left sur lie (on lees) for 24 months for natural settling before bottling.
Deep dark red, Charles Melton Nine Popes is characterful with complex fruit flavours, yet elegant with spicy soft tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
