Wine
Bleasdale Iron Duke Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of the best parcels of Cabernet each vintage, sourced from premium Bleasdale vineyards and specialist Langhorne Creek growers.
In the 1870s, the fear of invasion by Imperial Russia was strong. Armed with his rifle, named the Iron Duke, Bleasdale founder Frank Potts prepared a small army of locals in case invaders materialized on the banks of Langhorne Creek.
The grapes are destemmed and crushed into open fermenters. During peak fermentation the cap is pumped over up to four times daily.
After 8-12 days on skins, the wine is drained, pressed and settled for 24 hours. It is then racked to French oak barrels, one third new, for malolactic fermentation and to age for 12 months.
The wine is racked but not filtered prior to bottling. Only limited quantities are produced.
Deep garnet, Bleasdale Iron Duke Cabernet Sauvignon is medium bodied with pure varietal character, French oak complexity and long, firm tannins. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
