GR Reserve Shiraz
Wine
Bethany Wines GR Reserve Shiraz draws from a tiny vineyard in the foothills of the Barossa Ranges. The site, situated on classic Barossa red brown earth, contains some of the region's oldest vines.
The wine is named after the fifth generation of the Schrapel family, brothers Geoff and Robert, who made the leap from grape growing to winemaking in 1981.
The best parcels of grapes are picked in the early morning. Most of the fruit is crushed, though a small portion remains as whole berries to maximize fruit expression. Gentle fermentation occurs on skins over 8-10 days with twice daily pump overs.
The wine is then pressed to a mix of French and American oak barrels, typically 70% new. After 18 months of maturation it is prepared for bottling.
Dark purple, Bethany Wines GR Reserve Shiraz has a dynamic taste with supple dark fruit flavours, vibrant velvety tannins and a long finish. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
