Wine
Angove Family Winemakers Warboys Vineyard Shiraz is sourced from the estate's organically certified Warboys Vineyard. Planted during the 1940s, the site is believed to be one of the oldest vineyards in McLaren Vale.
The fruit is handpicked, chilled and hand sorted. One quarter is left as whole bunches with the rest destemmed and crushed on top for several days of cold soaking.
The ferments are initiated by indigenous yeasts. They receive daily hand plunging and the occasional gentle pump over. At the halfway point, any remaining whole berries are crushed by foot.
Post ferment, the grape skins are protected from oxidation by a blanket of carbon dioxide. After three days, the wine is pressed in a restored wooden basket press, with both the free run and pressings portions collected.
The wine is racked to large French oak puncheons for maturation. After 10 months the final blend is determined and bottled without fining or filtration.
Inky purple, Angove Family Winemakers Warboys Vineyard Shiraz has layers of fruit and spice with a strong tannin structure and resounding length. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
