L'Enfant Unique Pinot Noir
Wine
Rochford L'Enfant Unique Pinot Noir is grown at the winery's Hill Road Vineyard at Coldstream, sited on ancient sandy clay loams. It is named after the French phrase meaning 'the only child'.
The wine often sees a higher proportion of whole bunch inclusion, around 50%. The remainder of the fruit is destemmed. After a short cold soak, it undergoes natural alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in open vessels.
After several weeks on skins the wine is pressed to French oak barrels, a small proportion new. It matures for 10 months and is racked off lees just prior to bottling. There is no fining or filtration.
Inky red, Rochford L'Enfant Unique Pinot Noir is medium bodied with a core of vibrant fruit flavours and firm, dusty tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
