Field of Mars Block 6 & 4 Chardonnay
Wine
Keith Tulloch Field of Mars Block 6 & 4 Chardonnay draws from two tiny subsections of the winery's Hermitage Road vineyard at Pokolbin, planted just 50 metres from each other in sandy alluvial soils.
Block 6 is the original site, planted in 1968 to P58 clone Chardonnay. The winery established Block 4 in 2014, grafting the 548 clone (relatively new to Australia) to rootstock planted at very high density.
The fruit is handpicked. Its juice is entirely barrel fermented in French oak, typically with wild yeasts, followed by maturation in the same barrels.
In ancient Rome, the Field of Mars was a parade ground for victory celebrations. The Field of Mars wines celebrate their site, variety and Hunter Valley character.
Bright straw, Keith Tulloch Field of Mars Block 6 & 4 Chardonnay has bold fruit flavours, vibrant acidity, soft oak and a satin mouthfeel. Cellaring potential is seven years.
