Mietta Pinot Noir
Wine
Lethbridge Mietta Pinot Noir is sourced solely from the Mietta Block at the top of the winery's home vineyard in the Moorabool Valley, north-west of Geelong.
The vineyard was originally planted in 1874 by Swiss immigrants. When it was replanted in 1996, the vines of the Mietta Block were the first to be placed. Their low yields result in fruit with intensity and structure.
Whole bunch inclusion is typically a defining feature of the wine. Yet the exact percentage swings like a pendulum depending on the characters of the vintage: from 0% in rare years to 100% in others, and all points in between.
After pre-ferment maceration, the fruit is wild yeast open fermented with daily plunging. The wine is then pressed straight to new French oak barrels, where it remains on gross lees for natural malolactic fermentation and ageing.
Deep dark red, Lethbridge Mietta Pinot Noir has dark berry flavours with earthy, spicy complexity and fine tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
