Wine
Robert Stein The Kinnear is named after the ship that in 1838 brought Johann Stein to Australia. Fittingly The Kinnear is the winery's flagship.
The blend is mostly Shiraz with a small Cabernet component. The handpicked fruit is fermented in small open fermenters with around 30% whole bunches. Hand plunging occurs several times daily.
The wine transfers to barrel for maturation, typically 40% new French oak and the remainder seasoned American oak. Only the best barrels comprise the final blend. It is minimally fined and filtered at bottling.
Deep crimson purple, Robert Stein The Kinnear has a strong bouquet of blackberry and earth, with a soft but pronounced tannin structure.
Produced only in tiny quantities. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
