No.2 Polish Hill River Riesling
Wine
Rieslingfreak No.2 Polish Hill River Riesling draws from the Hill River Vineyards in Polish Hill River, south-east of the Clare township. Max Schubert, inventor of Penfolds Grange, planted the property's first vines in 1981.
The vineyard is sited more than 450 metres altitude in grey brown loam over sandy limestone and shale. It produces large bunches of large grapes, perfect for the refined Polish Hill River style.
The fruit is machine harvested in the cool of night and processed in the early morning. Rather than pressing, a 'spin and drain' method is used to ensure the grapes are treated softly and the purity of the juice is maintained.
Fermentation occurs at cool temperatures with cultured yeasts. There is no oak influence, further preserving pure varietal character in the final wine.
Bright straw, Rieslingfreak No.2 Polish Hill River Riesling is a dry wine with green apple and citrus notes, mineral complexity and generous acidity. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
