Wine
Tyrrell's Winemaker's Selection Vat 47 Chardonnay comes entirely from the Short Flat Vineyard, where the winery's original Chardonnay vines were planted by Murray Tyrrell in the late 1960s.
Located directly across the road from the winery, the vineyard is dry grown in sandy soils ideal for white varieties. Its fruit is handpicked and basket pressed immediately on arrival at the winery.
After cold settling, the juice begins fermentation in stainless steel tanks. It is then transferred to French oak barrels to complete the process and mature on yeast lees.
After 6-8 months, the wine is blended and bottled. Tyrrell's flagship Chardonnay, it is made only in small volumes.
Pale straw, Tyrrell's Winemaker's Selection Vat 47 Chardonnay is medium bodied, delicate and textural in style. It balances citrus flavours with fresh acidity and a rich mouth feel.
An excellent Hunter Valley Chardonnay. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
