Hazel's Vineyard Zinfandel
Wine
McHenry Hohnen Hazel's Vineyard Zinfandel is sourced from a small block of vines at the western edge of Hazel's Vineyard in southern Margaret River.
All the vines are biodynamically managed and hand harvested. The fruit is Lodi clone Zinfandel, which produces small, intense bunches.
Wild yeast fermentation occurs with a small whole bunch inclusion. The fermenting juice typically receives hand plunging and pump overs. After around a week, it is gently pressed to seasoned American and French hogsheads.
Malolactic fermentation is completed in the spring, followed by 15 months of ageing. The wine is then coarsely fined and bottled without fining or additions of acid or tannin.
Dark red purple, McHenry Hohnen Hazel's Vineyard Zinfandel is medium bodied and fruit driven with pert acidity and silky, dusty tannins. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
